Program notes

The history of music is punctuated by talented siblings: Mozart and his sister, the Capuçon brothers and the Labèque sisters today in classical music, the Heath Brothers or the Andrews Sisters in jazz. Here, the three Cohens unite in an unforgettable moment of swing virtuosity.

Born in Israel and later passing through New York, the three siblings have each led brilliant careers. The youngest, Avishai, has established himself as one of the most original trumpeters of the moment. The youngest, Anat, a saxophonist and clarinettist, fell in love with Brazilian music and Benny Goodman, and is one of today's great jazzwomen. As for the eldest and most discreet, Yuval is one of the most respected musicians in Israeli jazz.

Trained at the Tel Aviv Conservatory of Music, the "Three Cohens" grew up and developed a love of jazz that was initially inspired by New Orleans. They have combined on several recordings, including their 4th and latest album Tightrope, which includes special guests: bassist Christian McBride, drummer Jonathan Blake and pianist Fred Hersch. At the 2018 edition of the Jazz à La Villette festival, their singular, combined groove is once again on display for all to see.
