Program notes

Wagner in Switzerland is a unique celebration of Richard Wagner’s 200th anniversary and explores the composer’s life at Tribschen. Concerts at his villa are complemented by documentary elements offering an insight into Wagner’s life at Tribschen.

It features the famous soloists of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra performing his Siegfried Idyll at the very place where he premiered it on the staircase in 1870 as a birthday present to his wife Cosima. Wesendonck Lieder, interpreted in the original version for female voice and piano by the exceptional mezzo‐soprano Elisabeth Kulman and pianist Eduard Kutrowatz. Played on the original Wagner’s grand piano, it is a special treat for eyes and ears.
