Program notes

The opera often intimidates those who have no passion for it. And Wagner's operas even more! Yet, when an accountant of the Geneva's Grand Théâtre turns videographer to capture the backstage performances of all those who made the Wagner's Ring cycle production possible, the great masterpiece becomes magic and the world of opera suddenly accessible to anyone. Discover here the first part of this documentary, dedicated to the preparation of the show!

The Ring of the Nibelung – a cycle of four operas with a total playing time of about 15 hours – recounts the Gods' decline and the advent of a all new breed, the humans' one. It is also a parable of the incompatibility between power and love. The Wagnerian saga was a real triumph in 2013 in Geneva's Grand Théâtre. This fascinating documentary in two parts invites the audience to discover the fabrication secrets of such a great show, through the eyes of Chantal, accountant of the Grand Théâtre.
