Program notes

A documentary on a small French village, Mirecourt, where some of the world's best violins are made.

Making a violin begins with selecting wood in from forests of majestic ancient spruce trees. Still inspired by the perfection of Cremona's violins, the talents and patience of luthiers and bow makers have changed very little. Mirecourt, the French capital of violin-making, where the souls of its inhabitants and its violins become one. The world's greatest soloists return time and again to this small town in Jura, which feeds the fantasies of violinists like jazzman Didier Lockwood.
