Mourad Merzouki, alchimiste de la danse

Contemporary dance, and hip-hop in particular, is now part of the cultural heritage of many countries, but this has not always been the case. Choreographer Mourad Merzouki works tirelessly to promote and raise awareness of this art form, which originated on the streets and is now performed in cultural venues the world over. This documentary takes us behind the scenes of his creation titled Vertikal, which sees the dancers of the Käfig company (of which he is the founder) perform beyond the stage, along the surface of climbing walls and in the air. The choreographer opens up about his influences, whether they are related to dance or other art forms: from René Char to Charlie Chaplin and Muhammad Ali.
