Program notes
This documentary leads us discover the personality of one of the greatest conductors of the 20th century, Herbert von Karajan.
Herbert von Karajan seemed to come from another world. Karajan above the clouds, a playboy and a genius. Distant, a bane, a perfectionist: that was how the public perceived him. One of the best dressed men in the world, he became a cornerstone of international high society. But the Karajan myth was only one side of the man.
In private, he was quite the opposite of his public image. Karajan's inner and outer lives never seems to meet. Two lives in one person: that is the riddle of Herbert von Karajan. He had two personalities: the great musician and the human being beneath. Who he really was was something he knew less about than anyone else.
