This documentary, directed by BAFTA Award-winner Gerald Fox, paints an intimate portrait of star ballerina Natalia Osipova, a true phenomenon of the international stage. Thanks to exceptional access to Osipova’s personal archives, the film follows a pivotal season in her life as she embarks on her fifth year as Principal Dancer at the Royal Ballet. Between rehearsals and original creations, the camera accompanies Osipova through her work for the ballet Mother by Arthur Pita, a new collaboration with Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, as well as the iconic production of La Bayadère staged by Natalia Makarova.
Throughout the project, Natalia Osipova candidly reflects on her journey—her childhood in Russia, her tenure with the American Ballet Theatre, and her arrival at the Royal Ballet—revealing the demands, doubts, and passion that fuel her art. This documentary offers a rare glimpse into the daily life of a dancer praised by critics and audiences around the world as one of the best ballerinas of her generation, a true force of nature who continues to push the boundaries of dance.
