Program notes

At the helm of the London Symphony Orchestra since September 2024 and former Music Director of the Royal Opera House for over two decades, Antonio Pappano is undoubtedly one of the most influential conductors of his generation. Born in England to Italian parents, he emigrated to the United States with his family at the age of thirteen, and became a coach at the New York City Opera eight years later. Noticed by acclaimed pianist Daniel Barenboim for his virtuosity and acute sense of musicality, Antonio Pappano established himself as a genius of lyric and symphonic conducting, becoming a much sought-after figure on the classical music stage. Get to know the story and the art of the great maestro in this 2000 documentary, directed by János Darvas, backstage in some of the world's greatest opera houses!
