Program notes

Every year, the Verbier Festival's Rencontres Inédites series brings together some of the world's greatest soloists in never-before-seen chamber music dream teams. This 2026 installment opens with pianist Julien Quentin, violinists Marc Bouchkov and Paloma So, violist Máté Szücs, and cellist Bryan Cheng in the Piano Quintet No. 2 by Igor Raykhelson, the American neo-Romantic composer with classical and jazz leanings whose work is regularly featured at international music festivals. The concert continues with Brahms's Piano Quartet No. 1, one of the crown jewels of the chamber repertoire with an exhilarating final Rondo alla zingarese, performed to perfection here by Nobuyuki Tsujii at the piano, Yamen Saadi on the violon, Szücs once again on the viola, and Kian Soltani on the cello.
