Program notes

Bold, brilliant pianist Khatia Buniatishvili brings her captivating expressivity and boundless energy to an unmissable program of piano recital favorites at the 2026 Verbier Festival. In a display of keen artistic sensitivity, the Georgian pianist opens with Satie’s introspective Gymnopédie No. 1 and Chopin’s melancholic Prelude in E minor. She continues her journey through centuries of canonic solo piano repertoire with the “Aria” from Bach’s Suite in D major; Schubert’s sumptuous Serenade in D minor; Chopin’s Polonaise in A-flat minor and Mazurka in A minor; Couperin’s melodic tapestry, Les Barricades mystérieuses; and Bach’s soul-stirring Prelude and Fugue in A minor. Buniatishvili rounds out her rich program with Liszt’s heavenly Consolation No. 3 and his flamboyantly virtuosic Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2.
