Thibaut Garcia  — Guitarist

Program notes

French virtuoso guitarist Thibaut Garcia, "the new face of classical guitar," has rapidly risen to the upper echelon of his profession, coupling extraordinary precision with a warm, resonant tone and profound expressiveness. In this passionate solo recital from the 2025 Verbier Festival, Garcia pays homage to the great Agustín Barrios Mangoré, performing a wide selection of works by the prolific Paraguayan composer who immeasurably influenced the classical guitar repertoire with works like the three-movement La Catedral, a masterpiece that opens with a heartbreaking ode to the nostalgic melancholy of saudade and closes with a thrillingly beautiful, rapidfire Allegro. The program also includes arrangements of beloved works by Chopin, Paganini (the famously difficult Caprice No. 24), and Beethoven (the iconic opening Adagio from the "Moonlight" Sonata), demonstrating Garcia's ability to make any piece sound like it was written just for his guitar.
