Program notes

World-leading violinist Marc Bouchkov joins forces with the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra under the celebrated baton of Teodor Currentzis in a breathtaking orchestral concert at the 2025 Verbier Festival. The program begins with Brahms’s Violin Concerto in D Major — his only contribution to the genre — written for and premiered by his close friend, legendary violinist Joseph Joachim. Hailed as one of the greatest violin concertos ever composed, the work combines technical brilliance and emotional depth, qualities that Bouchkov brings to the stage with exceptional command. Following this is Mendelssohn’s vibrant Symphony No. 4 in A Major, subtitled “Italian” for the sunny vitality drawn from the composer’s travels through Italy in the 1830s. From the lyrical charm of the opening movement to the finale’s exuberant Neapolitan saltarello, Mendelssohn’s melodic writing and sparkling orchestration make this symphony an audience favorite: a fitting conclusion to the evening.
