Minsoo Sohn  — Pianist

Program notes

Described by The New York Times as "a genuine artist, with a thoughtfully conceived and poetic interpretation," South Korean pianist Minsoo Sohn takes on one of the piano's most daunting and rewarding challenges at the 2025 Verbier Festival: the legendary final three piano sonatas by Ludwig van Beethoven. Beethoven's late works are searching, introspective, idiosyncratic, and extraordinarily innovative, requiring both top-tier technique and a careful structural approach, qualities for which the prize-winning Sohn is known and celebrated. Each one of these piano gems is an undertaking in itself, and the full triptych — concluding with the Op. 111 Sonata's remarkable variations, in which Beethoven seems to have predicted the rhythms of jazz nearly a century before their advent — will leave you breathless.
