Program notes
A virtuosic trio from the 30th anniversary edition of the Verbier Festival: clarinetist Martin Fröst, bassist Sébastien Dubé, and pianist Lucas Debargue take us on an enchanting melodic journey through some unsung heroes of the chamber repertoire! Be swept away by the talent of these three artists and by the timeless qualities of their repertoire, beginning with Fröst and Debargue Ernest Chausson's Andante and Allegro for Clarinet and Piano and Claude Debussy's Première rhapsodie—"certainly one of the most amiable [pieces] I have ever written," according to the composer himself.
The duo continues with Francis Poulenc's Clarinet Sonata (originally composed for Benny Goodman!), another emblematic work of the French repertoire, before joining bassist Sébastien Dubé for the program's extraordinary second half, consisting of excerpts from the album Night Passages—a nocturnal journey through the centuries curated by Fröst himself, bringing together new arrangements of rare and well-known works for clarinet, double bass, and piano.
