Program notes

The transcendent, spectral sonorities of Arvo Pärt's unique music resound grandly in the sublime St. Peter's Church in Görlitz, Germany, marking the Estonian composer's 90th birthday at the 2025 Lausitz Festival. Pärt's characteristic tintinnabuli style finds its primary inspiration in Gregorian chant, with grand silences and mysticism shaping a minimalist aesthetic whose ethereal power has greatly influenced contemporary music both in the concert hall as well as on film and television. Conductor Tõnu Kaljuste, a longtime collaborator of Pärt, and his Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir join forces with the celebrated Concerto Copenhagen to perform a selection of five pieces with the gravity and assurance of confirmed experts in Pärt's singular, deeply moving oeuvre.
