Program notes

Exceptional pianist Bertrand Chamayou and superstar cellist Sol Gabetta begin this exquisitely Romantic Rendez-vous à Paris with Debussy's treasured Cello Sonata, mischievous, expressive, and jazzy. Chamayou then plays a selection of solo pieces: a gorgeous Debussy Prelude, an excerpt from Liszt’s evocative Années de Pèlerinage, and two of Chopin's Polish songs that Liszt transcribed for the piano. Gabetta then returns for the duo's grand finale: a dazzling rendition of Chopin's poignant Cello Sonata in G Minor, the last of the composer's works to be published in his lifetime. Panache and virtuosity resound in this concert behind closed doors, at the Fondation Singer-Polignac!
