Program notes

Renowned violinist Renaud Capuçon and acclaimed pianist David Fray join forces to perform the Romantic masterpieces of Schubert. Although the composer is best known for his lieder, he also produced a remarkably prolific body of chamber music. The concert opens with Schubert’s monumental Sonata for Piano Duet in C Major, before launching into the virtuosic and frenetic spirit of Rondo Brillant in B Minor. The Violin Sonata No. 2 in A Minor offers striking emotional contrast—belonging to the Viennese Hausmusik tradition—and the program reaches a triumphant conclusion with the Fantasia in C Major, a technically fiendish composition imbued with Mozart’s luminous aura.
