Program notes

The 2025 Rencontres Musicales d'Évian pay tribute to Maurice Ravel 150 years after his birth with an all-star lineup performing the complete set of Ravel's highly spirited, kaleidoscopically colorful chamber music! This final volume features rising opera star Clarisse Dalles in a program of both instrumental and vocal works, three of which draw inspiration from an eclectic range of literature. After the rich textures and sparkling Ravelian harmonies of the Introduction and Allegro, soprano Clarisse Dalles lends her crystalline timbre to the exquisite Trois poèmes de Mallarmé, three art songs based on symbolic and subtly beautiful poems by Stéphane Mallarmé. Then comes her breathtaking rendition of Madagascan songs, a song cycle evoking themes of love, nature, and rebellion set to three of Évariste de Parny’s poems. In between the two, acclaimed pianists Guillaume Bellom and Arthur Hinnewinkel provide an interlude of child-like innocence with Ma mère l’Oye, a piano duet comprising five pieces, each linked to a childhood tale such as Sleeping Beauty and Little Tom Thumb!
