Program notes

Join the fabulous violinist Simone Lamsma, known for her intense and expressive playing, with the exceptional Orchestre symphonique de Montréal in a sublime concert conducted by their acclaimed music director Rafael Payare. On the program, lyricism and reverie in Gustav Mahler's soulful "Song of the Night" Symphony No. 7, heady and complex with a brilliant interpretation by the OSM; and Lamsma in the challenging solo role of Szymanowski's provocative and modern Violin Concerto No. 1, inspired by Polish poet Tadeusz Miciński's "May Night":

All the birds pay tribute to me
for today I wed a goddess.
And now we stand by the lake in crimson blossom
in flowing tears of joy, with rapture and fear,
burning in amorous conflagration.
