Program notes

The young prodigy Nobuyuki Tsujii, "Nobu", as he is affectionately known, plays Russian masterpieces at the White Nights Festival of St. Petersburg, with Valery Gergiev conducting the Mariinsky Orchestra.

Among the promising young piano talents of Japan, no doubt a special place is held by Nobuyuki Tsujii. Blind since birth, the young prodigy took the 2009 Van Cliburn competition by storm. Ever since that auspicious debut, Nobuyuki has been making his tour of the world's concert stages. Among these has been St. Petersburg’s legendary Mariinsky Theater, where the pianist performed in concerts featuring Russian masterpieces by Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov, and Shostakovich under the direction of Valery Gergiev, and added a personal touch to the program with the inclusion of his own original composition.
