Program notes
The charismatic Swedish clarinestist Martin Fröst is joined by his brilliant compatriot, the pianist Roland Pöntinen. They present a programme of works by Brahms, Bartók, Chopin, de Falla and Fröst.
Recognized as "a kinetic player with a vivid interpretive imagination and a sharply focused, warm tone" (The New York Times), Martin Fröst’s playing has often drawn comparisons to a dancer. As for Roland Pöntinen, he is always in great demand as a chamber player and has worked with artists of great distinctions. He is also considered to be a great composer and his Blue Winter was performed by the Philadelphia Orchestra at Carnegie Hall in 1998.
Together, they play with freshness and color pieces chosen from Brahms' majestic Sonata in E-flat Major to Bartók’s Romanian Folk Dances. The recial ends with the dazzling Klezmer Dance No. 2, composed by Martin Fröst's brother, Göran Fröst.
