Program notes

Join maestro John Nelson as he leads the Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra and an incredible cast of singers—including the inimitable Joyce DiDonato—in Berlioz’s dramatic symphony based on Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. The marvelous mezzo-soprano is joined by renowned tenor Cyrille Dubois and baritone Christopher Maltman in a performance of this poignant and grandiose work, considered to be one of the most beautiful and original of Berlioz’s compositions, a forerunner to the Wagnerian musical drama.
