Javier Perianes — Pianist
Program notes
Pianist Javier Perianes opens the doors of the Alcazar of Seville and reveals all its different nooks and crannies in an architectural and musical voyage that celebrates the uniqueness of Andalusian sound. In this radiant recital, the Italian Domenico Scarlatti and the Spanish Isaac Albéniz, two composers intimately linked to the history of the monument, are put in dialogue with each other.
Despite the two centuries between them, the works of Scarlatti and Albéniz are often compared. Born in Italy, Scarlatti spent much of his life in Spain, with four years in Seville from 1729 to 1733. This Iberian immersion and nourishment from local sounds permeates profoundly within his music. Almost two centuries later, the pianist Albéniz also composed works rooted in his native country, though he enjoyed more success abroad. Albéniz knew the music of his predecessor having played it during his piano recitals, notably, in these same history-filled walls where it once again comes to life thanks to the virtuosic hands of Perianes.
