While the core programme of this recital was dedicated to works by Bach, Beethoven and Schubert (masters from the Baroque and classical eras), Grigory Sokolov also offered a selection of six fabulous encores, chosen among Chopin's Mazurkas and Debussy's Preludes.

Russian pianist Grigory Sokolov entered the Leningrad Conservatory in 1957 and is today considered one of the greatest pianists of our time. Every year he gives around 80 concerts, and most of them are always sold out. In 2012, Der Tagesspiegel declared : "[Grigory Sokolov] dreams his artistic dream; more abstract, more profound, yet at the same time more delicate than most of his colleagues. Listening to him is like a gift, and often astonishes."

During the summer of 2015, the giant of the piano agreed for the third time to have Bruno Monsaingeon's cameras in the concert hall. Monsaingeon is a filmmaker cherished by musicians, from Sviatoslav Richter to Yehudi Menuhin. He started his collaboration with Grigory Sokolov in 2003, when the pianist authorized him to film his legendary recital at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées. Just ten years later in 2013, Grigory Sokolov and Bruno Monsaingeon decided to record another astonishing recital at the Berlin Philharmonie. This is the third Sokolov recital recorded by Monsaingeon. All three recitals are available on medici.tv!
