In a performance filmed live in Venice’s opulent Scuola Grande di San Rocco, Leonardo Garcia Alarcón and his ensemble Cappella Mediterranea weave together selections from twenty-seven of Francesco Cavalli’s beautiful dramatic scores to create one fascinating concert opera. Follow two souls suffused with baroque mythology and allegory as they journey through the world of 17th-century Venetian opera, from its modest beginnings as chamber theater, to its later incarnations as grand works of public spectacle.
