Program notes

Conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen, the Verbier Festival Orchestra (VFO) accompanies one of the greatest pianists of our time, Evgeny Kissin. The Russian virtuoso performs masterworks by Beethoven, Chopin, Mendelssohn, and Liszt. Among the concert's highlights is the first of Beethoven's five piano concertos. Composed in 1795, it was officially premiered in 1800 with the composer himself at the keyboard.
