Program notes

The twentieth century saw the emergence of remarkable voices that still echo through time. Among them was Spanish soprano Victoria de los Ángeles, who graced the opera stage with her warm timbre and radiant charm.

Discover this selection of the sensational singer’s most memorable performances. On the program: three magnificent recitals, showcasing some of the most beautiful lieder by Schubert, Brahms, and de Falla; a tribute to her homeland with works by Granados, Vives, and Montsalvatge, and, as a finale, a magnificent aria by Federico Mompou, “Damunt de tu només les flors”, with the composer himself at the piano. These recitals are enriched with excerpts from iconic operas: she successively embodies Elizabeth in Wagner's Tannhaüser (“Dich teure Halle”), Rosine in Rossini's Il barbiere di Siviglia (“Una voce poco fa”) and the title role in Puccini's Madama Butterfly (“Con onor muore”). A compelling collection that unveils the remarkable versatility and expressive power of this unforgettable artist.
