Sir András Schiff — Pianist
Program notes
Discover Schubert’s Moments musicaux in the incredible interpretations of András Schiff, an experience that will take your breath away! The Moments musicaux, D. 780, op. 94, are six short piano pieces from the Austrian composer’s late period. Even though their formal unity might suggest the contrary, these pieces were conceived intermittently, between 1823 and 1828. As such, we can imagine the composer revisiting and revising these pieces over the course of the years, in an intense dialogue with the Schubert of another time.
Likewise, today medici.tv invites you to behold the ineffable András Schiff as he takes on these pieces at two different moments of his own life: in this video from 1990, at the apogee of his career, the prodigious pianist offers us a gem of his instrument’s art. Then, with another 17 years of experience behind him, the interpreter returns to the pieces during a sensational master class, sharing the work of Schubert with a new generation of musicians!
