The prestigious Besançon International Competition for Young Conductors, founded in 1951 as part of the Besançon International Music Festival, has helped launch the careers of such luminaries as Alexander Gibson, Sergiu Comissiona, Gerd Albrecht, Seiji Ozawa, Michel Plasson, Zdenek Macal, Jiri Kout, Jesus Lopez Cobos, Hubert Soudant, Sylvain Cambreling, and Yutaka Sado. As the competition's 59th edition comes to a close in 2025, find out who will join these illustrious ranks as the three talented finalists, Kyrian Friedenberg (26, USA), Tianyi Xie (21, China), and Satoshi Yoneda (29, Japan), lead the superb Deutsche Radio Philharmonie in the Overture from Berlioz's Béatrice et Bénédicte, the world premiere of Régis Campo's Delirium Scherzo (commissioned by the Festival), and selections from Prokofiev's sublime Romeo and Juliet!
