Barenboim on Beethoven

0 videos

In 1970, on the occasion of Beethoven's 200th birthday, the great documentary filmmaker Chistopher Nupen met with 28-year-old Daniel Barenboim (prodigious and wise beyond his years) for an eye-opening and engrossing series on Beethoven. Both alone at the piano and with help from Sir Adrian Boult, the New Philharmonia Orchestra, and beloved cellist Jacqueline du Pré, Barenboim takes an astute and affectionate look at the composer and some of his most important works. Fifty years later this footage—much of it never before broadcast—provides us an invaluable look at both Barenboim and Nupen near the beginning of their storied careers, and returns just in time to help us celebrate Beethoven’s 250th!
