George Céspedes — Choreographer

Danza Contemporánea de Cuba

Program notes

In his striking contemporary dance production, Polvo, Palabras, Sombras, Nada ("Dust, Words, Shadows, Nothingness"), Cuban choreographer George Céspedes presents an innovative choreography that mirrors the hope and fear he perceives in the world around him. The dancers of the Danza Contemporánea de Cuba pay a poignant tribute to French composer Camille Saint-Saëns, performing to a selection of his works, most notably the Danse Macabre and the "Organ" Symphony No. 3. Founded in 1959 and now a leading name in contemporary dance, the Danza Contemporánea de Cuba performs regularly in Cuba and around the world, bringing their unique blend of many dance styles from jazz to classical dance, and Afro-Cuban rhythms.
