Program notes
Comprising three scenes with a unique atmosphere, Pushing Borders brings together the original creations of three renowned choreographers: Jefta van Dinther, Milla Koistinen, and Arno Schuitemaker! Each in their own way, they explore the themes of new beginnings following a period of immobility. Under the camera's incisive gaze, the characters deal with the changing emotions and instability that accompany the transition from isolation and loneliness to sharing and closeness. Tossed about by the waves of their own feelings, they must overcome euphoria, consuming curiosity, and irrational fear in order to embrace the future and flourish with confidence. Through apocalyptic lighting, expressive movements, and minimalist yet striking costumes and sets, the choreographers celebrate life in a powerful triptych: “Breathe” by Milla Koistinen, “If You Could See Me Now” by Arno Schuitemaker, and “On Earth I'm Done: Mountains” by Jefta van Dinther.
