Program notes

Fall under the spell of the Ballet of the National Opera of Ukraine, one of the world's most acclaimed ballet companies, in a sublime interpretation of the most cherished holiday ballet, Tchaikovsky's The Nutcracker!

Inspired by an E.T.A. Hoffmann story, this iconic ballet brings to glorious, high-flying life all the childhood fears and fantasies inspired by those mysterious, exciting nights of December. The young Clara (performed by the radiant Iuliia Moskalenko) receives a gift from her uncle Drosselmeyer: a peculiar nutcracker, who enchants her into his world of fairies, snowflakes, and marzipan shepherds. After meeting a host of fantastical characters and witnessing their bewitching dances, Clara awakens to wonder—was it all a dream, or is there true magic in the world? The talents of the Kyiv-based company in this treasured production will convince you of the latter…

This is just one of many beautiful ballets available on medici.tv, the web's leading classical music streaming platform!
