Royal Academy of Dance
Program notes
The grace and glory of one of the world's most prestigious ballet prizes returns to medici.tv for a third straight year: the Margot Fonteyn International Ballet Competition! This world-renowned competition, held since 1931 and formerly known as the Genée (for the great Adeline Genée, whose name still adorns the gold medal), offers invaluable exposure and experience to talented young dancers from all over the world, promoting and rewarding excellence. Dancers in the Fonteyn have a unique opportunity to work with top choreographers and professionals, compete for medals and cash prizes, and perform on an international stage.
The 2025 final includes a special appearance by Gabriela Sisto and Fernando Mendonça, from the Dalal Achcar Ballet Company, as well as Carolina Pegurelli and Yoshi Suzuki, from São Paulo Dance Company. This year’s judges are Paloma Herrera (Artistic Director of the Summer Intensive at KAATSBAAN Cultural Park), Julio Bocca (Director of the Ballet Estable del Teatro Colón), Ana Botafogo (Principal Dancer of the Ballet do Theatro Municipal do Rio de Janeiro), and Mayara Magri (Principal Dancer of The Royal Ballet), with Mayara Magri also serving as Commissioned Choreographer.
