Minje Sung

About

Minje Sung was born in South Korea in 1990. He began playing the double bass at the age of eleven with his father, a double bass player of the Seoul Philharmonic. Then, he studied with professor Ho-Gyo Lee at the Korean University of Arts.

In 2005, he won the music competition in Pusan, Korea, and the following year the international competition Mathias Sperger. In 2007, he received the first prize at the international competition Serge Koussevitzky for double bass, and in 2008 the Kuhmo prize musician of the year.

At thirteen, he made his debut at the Kumho Art Hall in Seoul and he continued performing there in recitals as a member of the Kuhmo Asiana Soloists. He has also performed with philharmonic orchestras of Schubelin and Seoul and with the Riegelsberg chamber orchestra. More recently, he gave his first concert in France with the pianist Jun Hee Kim (webcast live on medici.tv).
