Michel Béroff begins studying piano at the Conservatoire de Nancy from which he is awarded the 1st prize in 1962 then the prize of excellence in 1963. Afterwards he joins Yvonne Loriod's and Pierre Sancan's classes at the Conservatoire de Paris (CNSM). In 1966 he is awarded the 1st prize of the CNSM and distinguishes again in 1967 by winning the 1st prize of the first international Olivier Messiaen Piano Competition in Royan in 1967.
