Günter Papendell
About
The baritone Günter Papendell was born in Krefeld and began his musical career as a member of the Augsburg Cathedral Boys’ Choir.
His first professional vocal coach was Tobias Meisberger, who remains his teacher to this day. He pursued his formal studies at the Cologne and Munich Academies of Music, and in 2005 attended masterclasses with Daphne Evangelatos and Helmut Deutsch. Another significant influence on his career has been Rudolf Piernay.
Among the competitions at which Günter Papendell has won prizes are the ARD Music Competition, the Willi Domgraf Fassbaender Competition, the Belvedere Singing Competition and the 2003 Neue Stimmen competition, at which he performed “Ya vas lyublyu bezmerno” from Tchaikovsky’s The Queen of Spades. As a lieder recitalist and concert singer he has appeared at Munich’s Prinzregententheater and at a number of well-known international festivals.
From 2004 to 2007 he was a member of the Gelsenkirchen Musiktheater im Revier, moving to the Komische Oper in Berlin for the 2007/08 season. Guest appearances have taken him to Munich, Mannheim, Dortmund, Bonn, Weimar, Bremen, Mainz, Nuremberg and Essen.
