Pianist and conductor of the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra for thirteen years, the charismatic maestro Christian Zacharias opens up in this beautiful documentary by Luca De Luigi.
Christian Zacharias is considered to be one of the greatest German pianists. In the 1970s, he began an international solo career and would go on to play on the biggest stages of the world. In 1976 he won first prize in the Ravel Competition organised by Radio France. Since 1992, the artist has also been pursuing a conducting career and holds widely renowned training workshops. He would be the head of the Lausanne Chamber Orchestra for thirteen years, during which time he would record the complete Mozart piano concertos, the four Schumann symphonies, symphonies by Charles-Philippe-Emmanuel Bach as well as the Beethoven's five concertos during two concerts marking the end of his collaboration with the orchestra.
Since the 2002-2003 season, he has been the principal guest conductor for the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra season and “Artistic Partner” of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra since 2009-2010. During his career, he received several awards: in 2007 at MIDEM in Cannes, he was named “Artist of the Year” and in 2010 the French government appointed him to the rank of Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters.
