О программе

Yuri Temirkanov conducts the Verbier Festival Orchestra for a Rossini, Rachmaninov and Prokokiev concert. At his side, the young piano prodigee Daniil Trifonov and the mezzo-soprano Ekaterina Semenchuk .

Chief Conductor of the St Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra for life, Yuri Temirkanov made his name thanks to his success at the National Competition for Conductors in Moscow, becoming in 1967 conductor and Music Director of the Kirov Opera and Ballet and Evgeny Mravinsky's assistant at the St. Petersburg Philharmonia. During this concert, he will meet again the young musicians of the Verbier Festival, and will be joined by two fellows: pianist Daniil Trifonov and mezzo-soprano Ekaterina Semenchuk. The Collegiate Chorale will be there too!

The very famous Overture of Rossini's Barber of Seville, which opens this concert, had initially been composed for another work, Aureliano in Palmira, and then used again by the composer for Elisabetta, regina d'Inghilterra. Yuri Temirkanov will then welcome a new piano-star, the young Daniil Trifonov, who has managed to succeed with the audience, the press and his peers, at only 23 years-old. Daniil Trifonov will play the virtuoso and very lyrical Concerto for piano No. 3 by Rachmaninov. Last but not least, Yuri Temirkanov will conduct the cantanta Alexander Nevsky by Prokofiev, composed for mezzo-soprano (Ekaterina Semenchuk at Verbier), choir and orchestra for Sergueï Eisenstein's movie.
