According to Hofmannsthal, Richard Strauss’s librettist, Die Frau Ohne Schatten is “a colorful and powerful story ... A fairy tale where two men and two women oppose each other”. Less shocking than the gut-wrenching tragedies of Salome and Elektra yet less conventional than Das Rosenkavalier and Ariadne auf Naxos, the work is a study in nuance, exploring the entire emotional palette. Led by Valery Gergiev as part of the Verbier Festival, an incredible group of musicians—including Emily Magee, Evelyn Herlitzius, and Bogdan Baciu—bring the work to life in a performance sure to be a music lover’s dream come true!
