О программе

The Orchestre National du Capitole and their director Tugan Sokhiev perform Mahler's Symphony No. 3, with Anna Larsson, live from Toulouse.

He is only 36, but he has already conducted many prestigious orchestras such as the Orchestre national de France, the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, The Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della Rai, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam, the Munich Philharmonic, the Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini, the Scala Milan Orchestra, and the Bayerische Staatsoper. Not only has he been named director of the Orchestre National du Capitole in 2008, he will also be the Bolchoi's musical director for the four years to come.

On June 28th, the conductor will perform one of his favorite composers' longest and most poignant symphonies: Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 3.

Talented Swedish contralto Anna Larsson will also perform. She made her international debuts with the Berliner Philharmoniker and Claudio Abbado, playing Mahler's Symphony No. 2

Mahler's six movements of the Symphony No. 3 were written during summer 1895 and summer 1896 to exalt the beauty of nature, and the six days of the world's Creation. The first movement symbolizes telluric forces, the second movement symbolizes vegetation, the third one is the animals, the fourth the birth of human beings, the fifth represents angels and the sixth and last one is love.
