If The Marriage of Figaro (presented in a concert version in 2012 at the Verbier Festival), Don Giovanni and The Magic Flute feature among the greatest and most famous operas of all time, Mozart also wrote many operas that we rarely get the opportunity to listen. It is the case of Il re pastore (The Shepherd King), an opera seria composed after Felice Giardini, when Mozart was only 19. Rumor has it that the prodigy wrote the score in less than two months. The Mozartian style is very recognizable: all the elements which elevated Idomeneo, re di Creta and La Clemenza di Tito at the rank of masterpieces are there.

For this Il re pastore performance, we have the pleasure to hear the tenor Krešimir Špicer for his debut at the Verbier Festival. With him, Anthony Gregory, Iulia Maria Dan, Regula Mühlemann, Emöke Barath and of course the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra and its music director Gábor Takács-Nagy.
