О программе

Yesterday's child prodigy, today's living legend of the piano, Evgeny Kissin is a regular of the Verbier Festival. This year, he performs Beethoven's landmark Piano Sonata No. 29, "Hammerklavier", along with a personal selection of Rachmaninov's Préludes.

The celebrated Große Sonate für das Hammerklavier (Grand Sonata for the Fortepiano) was composed by a nearly-deaf Beethoven. Beethoven colorfully described the work to his publisher in 1819, saying, "Here is a sonata that will keep pianists busy fifty years from now." Kissin closes his recital with selections from Rachmaninov's 24 Préludes, a Romantic work loosely inspired by Chopin's Préludes.
