"A concert dedicated to Italy, but not by a conductor": that's how Daniel Barenboim introduced this concert, recorded in May 2007 at Milan's Teatro alla Scala. Don't miss this highly personnal tribute to a country where the artist has regularly performed as a conductor.
In this solo piano recital, Barenboim highlights works by another great admirer of Italy: Franz Liszt. He performs selections from the Années de pèlerinage, Deuxième Année: Italie, along with other Italy-related compositions by Liszt like St François d'Assise and La Prédication des oiseaux from the composer's Légendes. He closes the recital with selections from Italy's rich operatic tradition, presenting Liszt's transcriptions of selected Verdi arias: "Miserere" from Il Trovatore, "Danza sacra e duetto" from Aida, and "Paraphrases de concert" from Rigoletto.
