Recognised as one of the world’s best and most charismatic viola players, Maxim Rysanov is the winner of the prestigious 2008 Classic FM Gramophone Young Artist of the Year. Originally from the Ukraine, Maxim is now based in London. Highlights of the current season in the UK include performances with the BBC Philharmonic (Hindemith), the BBC National Orchestra of Wales (Martinu), the BBC Scottish Symphony (Tchaikovsky Rococo) as well as a tour with the Britten Sinfonia (Britten and Woolrich) and the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra (Berlioz). Outside the UK, he will make his debuts with Residentie Orkest, Sinfonia Varsovia. Schleswig Holstein Orchester, Cape Town Philharmonic, Belgrade Philharmonic, and Lithuanian National Symphony among others. Onyx recently released a new CD of Brahms viola works and a European tour will start in November 2008. Other recordings include a disc of Bach Inventions with Janine Jansen and Torleif Thedéen, a concerto disc of Tavener and Kancheli (Onyx) and a recital disc with Evelyn Chang (Avie): the latter two were both named Gramophone Editor’s Choice.
