Andrei Malashenko

About

Andrei Malashenko began studying percussions in Professor Pierre Béluse's class at the McGill University in Montreal, from which he graduates with a high distinction. Then he continued his studies at the Montreal University in Professor Louis Charbonneau's class.

He has been a percussionist in several orchestras including the New Zealand Chamber Orchestra, the McGill Chamber Orchestra and the I Musici Chamber Orchestra in Montreal. Since 1999 he has been the principal timpanist of the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal.

He has taught at the University of Victoria in Wellington. He is currently a teacher at the McGill University. He is passionate about works by Mahler (in particular the Symphonies No. 1 and 9 in D Major), Stravinsky (including The Rite of Spring), Rachmaninov and Scriabin. In 2015 he performs under Kent Nagano's baton with the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal.
