Program notes

Like all great things, the 2021 Verbier Festival must come to a close—but what a note to end on! For this final livestream from medici.tv's 15th consecutive year at your favorite Alpine festival, get to know the singers of the Verbier Academy, a longtime festival institution dedicated to discovering and fostering tomorrow's greatest artists! Joined by the prestigious Verbier Festival Junior Orchestra under maestro James Gaffigan, the young talents interpret the concert version of Puccini's sublimely romantic La Bohème. Sungho Kim, Stephen Marsh, Alexander York, and Edward Jowle step into the roles of the penniless artists Rodolfo, Marcello, Schaunard, and Colline, while Sylvia D'Eramo and Erika Baikoff dazzle as seamstress Mimì and singer Musetta. Alongside Jean-Philippe Mc Clish on double duty as landlord Benoît and councilor Alcindoro, this gifted group of upcoming stars do justice to one of the uncontested favorites of the operatic repertoire, one of the most beloved works ever written.
