Eugene Onegin, Op. 24, is a profoundly Russian work. It took Pushkin 8 years to write his novel, and Tchaikovsky's opera, inspired by this novel, delves deep into the human soul with the tender lyricism of its melodies. The opera Eugene Onegin tells the story of the love affairs of a young dandy from Saint Petersburg, who—amidst sword duels, misunderstandings, and regrets—experiences the full range of human emotions. In fact, the psychological realism of Eugene Onegin, Op. 24 reflects Pushkin's own character, as he too met his demise by a bullet.
