Schumannâs Piano Concerto in A Minor, Op. 54 is the composerâs only concerto for the instrument. In the early 1840s, the German master wished to compose a work which simultaneously drew inspiration from the symphony, the concerto, and the great sonata. The result of this original combination? A Fantasy for piano and orchestra, which later formed the first movement of the Piano Concerto, Op. 54! The work was premiered in 1845 in Dresdan by the great Clara Schumann herself. From this point onwards, the work has been the subject of multiple performances of celebrated soloists, joining forces with prestigious orchestras.
