Sobre el programa...

Certain scenes contain content of a violent or sexual nature that some viewers may find objectionable.

The first performance of Richard Strauss's Salome, which took place in 1905 in Dresden, was a thunderous triumph despite the many difficulties involved in bringing the work to the stage. The provocative lyric drama, based on the play by Oscar Wilde, met with 38 curtain calls by the enraptured audience, firmly establishing Strauss's genius as an operatic composer and innovator.

In this intense, defiantly modern masterpiece, the orchestra brings out all the vivid and mordant colors in Strauss's score, and the title role is an staggering tour de force of expressivity. Conductor Simone Young brings Strauss's music to life in this new production by the Paris Opera, staged by Lydia Steier with an extraordinary cast centered around star soprano Elza van den Heever in the role of Salome.
